Resurrection : This image captures the struggle that Johannesburg faces regarding resurrection from urban decay - while the phoenix may be rising with many good examples, especially in Braamfontein, many buildings remain in limbo, untouchable by the fact that their owners are “untraceable” and if found, are liable for huge rates bills that have not been paid. This crucifix is planted on the grounds of the Trinity Church which has has recently restricted access to the public, so much for all-encompassing openness by the church. So, this is my metaphor for Johannesburg: A resurrection that is restricted.
